Welcome to a brand new feature I am introducing. As my presence on Medium dwindles, I want to keep in touch with those who support me. Apart from reading here, my writing life is all but over, except for this.

Weekly, I will offer you three for three:

  • Three articles I have published elsewhere
  • Three recommendations — these can be software, books or other authors
  • Three random facts or quotes that have amazed me.

At the bottom of each article, you will also find links to my main writing, where you can join me.

Three Articles Not on Medium

Who is your inspiration? — When I thought of the true definition of inspiration: ‘a feeling of enthusiasm you get from someone or something that gives you new and creative ideas’, I realised that my inspiration is very close to home.

The Disappearance of the Lyon Sisters — Katherine and Sheila Lyon went missing on 25th March 1975. They had walked to the local shopping mall in Wheaton, Maryland. Katherine was ten and her sister twelve; both would vanish without a trace. What happened to the sisters would not be known until decades later, in a case that would haunt the police department.

The History of Thought Clubs — Throughout history, creatives have not worked in isolation. It is a part of writing that fascinates me: the clubs that emerged where great writers bounced ideas off each other. These contained some of the greatest minds in history.

Three Recommendations

The Last Word, Elly Griffiths — When I first met the characters in The PostScript Murders I knew I wasn’t finished with them. The lovable Edwin, the sensitive Benedict and the fearless Natalka. I was not disappointed. This is a brilliant crime story that you will not want to put down. Having read all Elly Griffiths books this is up there with some of the best.

Stephen Fry Substack — For those that don’t know Stephen Fry is a British comedian, tv personality and national treasure. He has just launched a Substack which is brilliant reading. The Troy I share with you has a beautiful story about the late Queen and a new television.

The Daily Stoic — This is a newsletter that I have subscribed to for years. Ryan Holiday was the first person who introduced with to Stoicism and since then I have devoured his books and others on the subject. The Daily Stoic provides one piece of stoic wisdom a day to your email. The stories Holiday uses have also provided the inspiration for some of my articles so it is a good resource.
